In Emmeloord, the potato capital of the world, welcome to TPC, The Potato Company. We are strong in the rapid development of new potato varieties, focusing on resistance to potato fatigue (AM), drought and diseases. Moreover, we have great expertise in growing and trading organic potatoes. TPC is SKAL-certified. For high global suitability of potato varieties, we have trial fields all over the world. You can see this for example on the page Photos. We grow according to the strictest safety standards and supply high-quality and sustainable seed potatoes. Since its establishment in 2004, TPC has developed a large number of its own varieties, which have now proven themselves, such as Monte Carlo and Toronto. TPC Research
In cooperation with independent breeders, we develop new potato varieties in our own breeding programme. These breeders are skilled entrepreneurs who can deliver quick results. As a result, TPC can register new varieties for the variety list after only 5 years on average. We test each variety at four locations worldwide, so that we can test all climate zones and day lengths. Thanks to this unique variety testing and our courage to make choices, we can speed up the breeding process by 5 years. Want to know more about our way of growing seed potatoes? We are the fastest growing company in the seed potato sector and now export our varieties to more than 50 countries. Thanks to our independent R&D department TPC research we know how to get a better grip on threats such as potato fatigue, drought, salinisation of groundwater and potato diseases. 𝗠𝗮𝗮𝗸 𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝘁 𝗝𝗼𝘀 – 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗸𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗶𝗷 𝗧𝗣𝗖
Jos Bus is bijna vanaf het allereerste begin betrokken bij TPC. In 2005, een jaar na de start, werd een nieuwe stap gezet met de ontwikkeling van eigen aardappelrassen. Wat begon met zo'n twintig zaailingen van verschillende kwekers groeide uit tot een volwaardig veredelingsprogramma. Twee van die eerste zaailingen ontwikkelden zich tot rassen die vandaag de dag nog bekend zijn: Barcelona en Monte Carlo.
In de beginjaren was Jos bij vrijwel alles betrokken, van verladingen en documentatie tot contact met telers en kwaliteitscontrole. Naarmate TPC groeide en het team werd uitgebreid, veranderde ook zijn rol. Hij kon zich steeds meer richten op research en rasontwikkeling. Tegenwoordig begeleidt hij het kweekprogramma en ondersteunt hij telers in Nederland en afnemers in het buitenland.
Wat Jos het mooiste vindt aan zijn werk is de veelzijdigheid. Van het opzetten van nieuwe kweeklijnen tot het handmatig rooien van proefvelden, geen dag is hetzelfde. Juist die afwisseling en het praktische karakter geven hem veel voldoening.
Volgens Jos ligt de kracht van TPC in de compacte organisatie en de korte lijnen met telers en klanten. Hij is trots op de ontwikkeling die het bedrijf heeft doorgemaakt, met een eigen klantenkring in binnen- en buitenland en met een enthousiast team. Voor de toekomst ziet hij volop kansen om TPC en haar rassen internationaal verder te laten groeien.
